GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Democratic Town Committee will kick off election season with the promise of a strong commitment and coordinated effort to elect Democrats at home and throughout the state this year, members say.

Chairman Doug Mayo said the committee will work with party leaders over the next couple of months and will hold several events.

Those will begin with a grand-opening “Day of Action” on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the local committee’s headquarters at 192 Main St. and will be followed by a Democratic Unity Barbecue on Sunday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at 63 Orchard St.

Mayo said the committee will also hold meet-and-greet events and will be recruiting new members for vacant seats on the committee.

Since the committee elected new officers in the spring, it has hosted Rep. Paul Mark, who gave details of how he and Sen. Stanley Rosenberg are helping Democrats throughout the valley. He also talked about how local Democrats can become involved in different efforts.

Committee officers are Mayo, Vice-Chair Danielle Letourneau, Treasurer Donovan Eastman and Affirmative Action and Outreach Coordinator Nicole Cavanaugh.

The secretary position is currently vacant.

The Greenfield Democratic Town Committee meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Community Room in 1 Elm Terrace.
