GCC honors its alumni, past and future

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Community College celebrated students past and present this past weekend with the GCC Foundation awards ceremony, presenting dozens of scholarships and awards.

Among those representing students past on Sunday was one-time Deerfield police officer Christopher Bilodeau, 39, selected this year by the GCC Distinguished Alumni Committee for the 2013 award. Professor Buz Eisenberg and Distinguished Alumni Committee member Bill Fitzpatrick presented the award. Bilodeau also received a citation from the state Legislature presented by Sen. Stan Rosenberg and Rep. Paul Mark.

A special agent with the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service, Bilodeau is no stranger to commendation, having this year received the Award for Heroism from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for his courageous actions during a terrorist attack on a motorcade traveling through Pakistan in 2011.

The Frontier Regional School alumnus studied criminal justice at GCC and travelled from Washington, D.C., for the ceremony.

Closer to home, 74 awards and scholarships went to students from Massachusetts and neighboring states.
