State Rep. Paul Mark Visits KidZone in Pittsfield

On Friday, August 5, 2011 KidZone Child Care / Educational Center Inc. was honored to receive a visit from Paul Mark, Massachusetts State Representative in the 2nd Berkshire District. The purpose of Paul Mark’s visit was to engage him in conversation surrounding theMECEU H1671 bill that would allow early educators to form a non-traditional union in Massachusetts.

Throughout the visit Paul met with several teachers who shared just what being a teacher is all about. Paul was able to see first-hand that early educators are no longer glorified babysitters, instead they are hardworking, and career orientated people who have the ability to give children a jump start at high quality education. Hearing and seeing first-hand the roles that each teacher must play opened Paul Mark’s eyes to what it takes to care and educate young children. Throughout the visit Paul would eagerly ask questions and tell the teachers what an amazing job they were doing.

Along with meeting teachers, Paul also engaged with several children in various age groups. He was shown how to care for a tarantula, exactly how messy babies can be after they eat, how to build a volcano, and how KidZone’s dance team was making big news all over town.

As the tour was winding down Paul talked about his campaigning experiences. He stated that one of the worst parts of campaigning was asking people if he had their vote, because you never know what they are going to say. So after explaining the literature surrounding bill H1671 we turned to Paul and said, “Can we have your vote?” Paul eagerly replied, “Yes, yes you do.”
